It’s a Bingo
Inglorious Basterds is war
film mostly set at the end of the World War II around Germany and France. It
was directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars the likes of Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz
and Diane Kruger.
The film can be subdivided
into 5 chapters. Chapter one starts ‘once upon a time’ in Nazi-occupied France
and introduces Colonel Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz, as the most meticulous,
successful and feared member of the Waffen-SS, also known as the
‘Jew-Hunter’. And this is basically what
he does in that very first chapter, hunting Jewish people hidden by the French
community. He does so in true Quentin Tarentino style – over-the-top –
out-there and in-your-face!
Chapter two, which is set in
the spring of 1944, introduces the soon to be well renown ‘Inglorious Basterds’
led by Special Forces Lieutenant Also Raine, played by Brad Pitt. According to
Ltd Raine, the sole and only mission is ‘killing Nazis’.

Chapter three portrays ‘A
German Night in Paris’. In German occupied Paris Shosanna is living under
different identity and is the proprieter of a cinema. The cine has been chosen
to screen a Nazi propaganda movie. This leads Shosanna to decide to burn down
the cinema during the screening and killing all people, among them high ranking
Nazi Officers, in the cinema.
Operation KINO (German for
cinema), an operation with basically the same intention as all previous plots
introduced in chapter five, however let by the British is introduced next. This
chapter brings one of my favourite scenes, this is when the British agent gets
discovered by ordering 3 drinks in tavern using the wrong three fingers. A big
shot out between the Basterds, the Brits and the Nazis occurs, again in true
Tarantino fashion. There are less survivors then there is blood.
Chapter five holds the grand
finale of the movie. Takes the longest, has the most dead people in it and the
most actions by far. The inglorious Basterds arrive at the cinema, pretending
to be Italians. A cover which is in the end blown from the first minute.
I can’t tell you how the
movie ends and who lives and who dies, but when considering that one should
keep in mind that this is Tarantino movie and that the outcome is somewhat
predictable.
The maestro (Tarantino)
himself self has once again shown, that he has a great artistic freedom in what
he does and that what he does, appears to turn into gold in an instant. A big
credit also has to go to the cast. Up and foremost to Christoph Waltz, who is
undoubtedly one of the best actors out there at the moment and has won the 2010
Best Actor in a Supporting role for his part in Inglorious Bastards. All in all
– I think all what Tarantino is saying is the following:
