And they live happily ever after ... ? Well don’t get ahead of yourselves!
In Anchorman 2 – The
Legend continues truly. In this sequel to Anchorman – The legend of Ron
Burgundy the main story line is pretty much the same as in the first movie. Ron
is still confused by females (including his now wife Veronica Corningstone),
however this time he gets even more confused when he encounters an
African-American female member of the media, who happens to be his boss. Ron
and his gang are taking on New York and are taking over the 24 hours news
channel by storm. Again in the story line Ron hits rock bottom and hits all the
highs and lows. All of the men in the movie are behaving like little boys in
cowboy suits.
The take on the sequel comes across as even more sarcastic
than then the first one, but from my perspective makes for better memorable
punch lines. Movie director Mckay, has managed to keep the core jokes at the
expense of male privileges and not reuse the jokes from the first movie but
rather build on them. It might be one of the most inspired cinema capable
non-sense out there, but also one of the funniest.
Anchorman 2 is also full of celebrity cameo appearance
(SPOILER ALERT!!), with the likes of Harrison Ford, Vince Vaughn, Liam Neeson,
Jim Carrey and Will Smith. One of the best parts of the movie is the portrayal
of Rupert Murdoch as the media mogul, the boss of all bosses, who speaks in
this incredibly thick Australian accent, which in return makes Ron put the out
there that he “thought Australian speaks the same as us”.
Brick, who is played by Steve Carrell, is also back in the
movie as part of Ron’s gong. At the very start of the movie Brick re-enters the
scene by attending his own funeral. Brick makes the best lines for this and I
would like to share some of those with you.
Brick: Ron, why is it
called the Big apple?
Ron: Because every
street has an apple tree on it.
Ron: 2am to 5am news
shift? That’s the graveyard shift.
Brick: I’m afraid of
no ghost!
All up I think this sequel, out of the many sequels to first
out there, is one of the better one. They have tried to reinvent themselves,
the humour, the laughs and the cast are the same.
